This is my personal musing. It is sketchy and jumbled, for my
own future reflection. If you’re reading this,it is on your own conscience and
expense :)

Not too long ago,I was in the main hall of one of the many IPTs in our beloved Malaysia; for a family member’s postgraduate enrolment’s registration.I was in tanah air tercinta then, hence I was part of the sending-off party. It was a joyously hectic affairs, with dozens of counters and paperworks and high-octane excitement. It has been ages since the last time I got to experience a local institution, and I was savouring every single little details with relish, no matter how mundane ( I even find the process of getting the on-campus parking sticker exciting; yes, true story).
After the morning registration finished,we (the students and family/ friends/ companion-counterparts) were told to be back at the hall after lunch; for the welcoming and briefing sessions. We came back after our Zuhur and quick lunch.By this time, my excitement was already waning. One,it was late in the aftrenoon. Two,full belly.Enough said.Only a bed could make the equation perfect.I was seated away from the rest of the group due to the lack of chairs, hence, further prediction of questionable survival throughout the briefing session.
Not too long after, some random guy got to the podium on stage and began rummaging with the laptop and the LCD projector on stage. And then, BAM!A video-playlist appeared on the giant screen. The emcee then took the stage, and we were told to stand. Please bear in mind that it has been awhile since the last time I caught myself in a formal event in Malaysia, hence the initial bewilderment was off-guard.I thought that some VVIPs were about to enter the hall and the playlist was for some sort of entrance audio.
Then did the emcee told us that we are about to sing the National Anthem. With accompanying lyrical music-video on the giant screen.I smiled.Over the years being abroad,I only got the chance to sing the anthem only a handful of times, and it was often few and far between.Singing the anthem with both feet on the Malaysian soil?Been near a decade since the last time.
The sound of the brass-band and drum rolls preceded the lyrical display on-screen.The hall’s surround system really got to me then, permeating every pores of my being with each single note.My eyes were transfixed forward onto the giant screen and the body automatically;under a subconscious command got into the ‘baris sedia’ stance. Somehow the training from the school years slinked in unnoticed, like embracing an old friend.
The moment I opened my mouth to sing the first line,it was then that I felt the goosebumps erupted.

I have lost count of how many times did I sing the anthem since my days in the Tabika Kemas. But for the first time, that was the moment when I could feel what every single syllable of the lyric was trying to convey to me.The price of a nation. The pride of a nation. The sacrifice of the forefathers.Every single drops of blood and tears that paid for the price of this land. The whisper of every single grain of soil and sand beneath my feet that screamed history of the past and the obligations for the future.Every single words,at the moment, hit me like a metric-tonne eighteen-wheeler truck.
I have never,in my life,did what I did that day.I cried.Proudly.While singing Negaraku.
Ever.

A reflection that was summed by the solid hue.The best depiction on how the recent events had bring out the best and the worst in all of us.This is not like being a sulky two-year old throwing tantrums for not getting it his way.I believe that I have been taught better than to behave as such,insya-Allah (ameen). This is not an outcry over the infamously-claimed synchronized blackouts. The superficial representation is just a mere fraction over the whole sentiment (or at least on my behalf). This,is about a citizen’s rights;regardless of stance and brands.
Maybe to some, putting the Black DP stance is for sore losers not being able to accept defeat.I see it as my stance over democracy, not as a partiality over any party. Democracy is in practice when all eligible citizens have an equal say in the decisions that affect their lives, yes?Over all that is right and wrong,no?
This is not about blaming or finger-pointing,this is about looking into the mirror and going through the checklist above. For all of us.
For the past weeks and months, how have we been with the courtesy of etiquette and the right code of behaviour?Have our intelligence been insulted, and have we on the other hands insulted the intelligence of others?Consciously or unconsciously.I pray hard that the lack of the checklist above in any level of social strata ,regardless of who we are is not a reflection of the moral decay that is creeping on us unnoticed in the heat of high-octane emotions.Even if it is,let’s do pray that it is still a reversible process where the decadency and deterioration are not permanent fixtures for the near future.
I would rather not be molded into the likes of the generations depicted in Bradbury’s Farenheit 451 or being the likes of the theme subjected in Muse’s Uprising (being putty in others’ hands to be molded as what they see fit).Having your love for the country and your intelligence insulted are not exactly pleasant,to put it mildly.Hence, let’s work hard to have the checklist above thoroughly ingrained in our hearts and brain, and may that those qualities spread onto others too.
Wrong is wrong even if everyone is doing it. Right is right even if you are the only one doing it;regardless of who you are, regardless of your political stance, regardless of your alliances. It is about the wholeness of an integrity. Not just about a cheap depiction of blown-up fuses or skewered electrical circuits.
The variable is either the system or the people.
Taking the current uproar as an instance,if the variables in question are sound and solid, even with a national blackout and things were being done under the waning moonlight, pelita cap ayam, lampu karbaid, unggun api Jambori Tahunan Pengakap or even from the kelip-kelip (fireflies); it would not change a thing (with the poll-count or the suspicion) :)
Because of the intact integrity.Good thoughts towards each other is a given. That is how it should be.May that the shift of change of our inner qualities be a reality soon, insyaAllah.
To know why you are doing what you are doing is one thing.
To have blind imitation as the template of what you are doing, is another.
:)
To be doing what you are doing as an imitation of what others are doing....that's...eheh.
Kudos and congrats to all Malaysians who did not shirk their responsibilities to pitch their voice for a better future for Malaysia.
And please be noted that in a political scene and governmental system,by rights, victories are not meant for any specific political party, alliances,or coalitions.
Victories are rakyat’s.And rakyat’s alone.Period.
Because whoever that won is obliged to cater to the rakyat and nation's needs, unconditionally and whole-heartedly :)
That,is the meaning of responsibility and obligation.
Respect is the key

Dan saya bertanggungjawab dan berhak ke atasnya

For my beloved nation
Let's stand together,all of us
for the future of our next generations
May Allah bless.
